WHAT ARE THE ACTION SCORECARDS

The Council Climate Action Scorecards are an assessment on all UK councils on the actions they've taken towards net zero, created in partnership with mySociety. The Scorecard assessment consists of 91 questions or less, depending on council type, across 7 different sections, created in consultation with over 90 different organisations and individuals. Each council is marked against this criteria with a team of volunteers, then each council is given a right to reply before the scores undergo a final audit. The most recent Scorecards were created and published in 2023.

In 2021 we assessed all UK written council Climate Action Plans against 28 questions across nine sections, based on the expert-approved Climate Action Plan Checklist and following a detailed three stage marking process.

Our first report, written by Anthesis "Scorecards Successes: What factors enable climate action within UK local authorities?" analyses the 2023 Council Climate Action Scorecards to explore which council characteristics impact positively or negatively on a council's Scorecard result.
